Teddy Dupay Named to the Florida High School Athletic Association Hall of Fame, Class of 2026

TAMPA, Fla. — The Florida High School Athletic Association has named Teddy Dupay to its Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2026, recognizing the most prolific scoring career in the history of Florida high school basketball.

Dupay, who competed at Mariner High School from 1994 to 1998, finished with 3,744 career points. His Hall of Fame citation records it as a state record that still stands. It has now stood for more than a quarter of a century.

He is one of eight members of the association’s 36th induction class, announced on May 6, 2026, alongside inductees in softball, football, baseball, flag football, officiating and athletic administration.

“We are proud to recognize these eight outstanding individuals whose impact on interscholastic athletics in Florida has been both meaningful and enduring,” said FHSAA Executive Director Craig Damon in the association’s announcement.

The career the citation covers

Dupay’s FHSAA citation traces a four-year climb. As a freshman he helped Mariner secure a Lee County Athletic Conference championship. As a sophomore he averaged 25.3 points a game, earned Second-Team All-State honors, and led his team to a 32–2 record and a berth in the state championship game. As a junior he averaged 28.9 points a game and was named First-Team All-State in Class 5A.

His senior season is the one the record books still carry. He averaged 41.4 points a night, led the nation in scoring, and was named Florida’s Mr. Basketball. He recorded four 50-point games, including a 70-point performance in a state playoff game, and set the City of Palms Tournament record with 56 points. He earned McDonald’s All-American honors in 1998 and won the game’s three-point contest, finishing his prep career holding five national scoring records along with multiple Parade All-American selections and national player-of-the-year honors.

At the University of Florida from 1998 to 2001, Dupay finished third in program history with 188 career three-pointers under Coach Billy Donovan, helping the Gators reach the 2000 Final Four and National Championship game and win SEC Championships. He was an Associated Press All-American and a two-time All-SEC selection.

The FHSAA honor follows his selection to the City of Palms Hall of Fame as part of its inaugural class — the very first player ever inducted.

What he is doing with it

Dupay now coaches children. He is the founder of Teddy Dupay Basketball Academy in downtown Tampa, which trains players aged four to seventeen 52 weeks a year through individual classes, private lessons, summer camps and a 3-on-3 developmental league. Every session and every game is run by a paid professional coach.

Writing to the families of his academy after the class was announced, Dupay pointed away from the records.

“A Hall of Fame call doesn’t make you think about the points. It makes you think about the people who got you there. The coach who stayed late. The parents who drove the long miles. The teammates who set the screens nobody remembers. The number has my name on it, but it was never just mine.”

“If you spend your youth chasing a number, you can win the number and still lose what mattered,” he wrote. “The scoreboard is loud and temporary. What lasts is the kind of person you became.”
